TVET Coalition: Career Guidance Handbook

Abstract

This career guidance booklet is presented as part of the second pillar of this Schools Outreach project; the teacher training on TVET and career guidance. The TVET Coalition and the working group members want to support the participants of the training by supplying them with this booklet that can be used when engaging their students in career guidance. In addition, this career guidance booklet is meant to be shared with other teachers who might not have participated in the training but would still require support on how to give career guidance to students, how to improve interaction in the classroom and more in depth knowledge of the TVET sector.
This booklet can be shared freely by teachers and guidance counsellors in secondary schools.

About the Author

The TVET Coalition is an alliance composed of government institutions, training providers, multi- and bilateral organisations, private sector and (l)NGOs. Its overarching objective is to support the government in its mandate to improve the quality and employability of WET graduates in Sierra Leone by aligning the demand with the supply of skills and competencies. In doing so, the Coalition also intends to create an environment that promotes the development of the private sector in Sierra Leone and positions the country as an attractive investment destination.

The TVET Coalition focuses on four main strategies: Networking, Advocacy, Research and Image campaigning.

As part of the advocacy and image campaigning objectives, a working group was set up to focus on better understanding of the WET sector and its possibilities in Sierra Leone by both teachers and students in secondary education. The working group consists of Afriqia HR Solutions, Schooling for Life, GIZ, NOVA, IOM and the Local Content Agency.
